Pure Great spot in the heart of Miramar offering fresh, organic fare including salads, smoothies, and wraps (the Spicy Thai chicken is a personal favorite). The dessert offerings are also incredibly delicious, especially the carrot cake muffins. Yum! The owner sources organic, cruelty-free produce and livestock. Tasty and responsible. Win/win. $$
Gustos Coffee Co. Lovely coffee, breakfast, and lunch spot. Minimalist decor, fresh pastries, and super friendly staff. Indoor and outdoor seating. $$
Casita Miramar Authentic Puerto Rican fare with an updated twist. Fresh and vibrant. One of our favorite entrees is the guava glazed ribs; the sangria is heavenly. Divine. $$$
La Hacienda A delightful deli and gourmet market with local, organic produce, fabulous sandwiches/salads and a dizzying array of beverages- both standard and fancy. Excellent wine and beer selections. $$$
Santurce:
El Axolote A hidden gem off a less-travelled side street featuring mouth-watering tacos, flautones, guacamole, and chocolate churros- amazing! Full Bar, too. $$
Acapulco Taqueria Mexicana I had been hearing about Acapulco for some time and finally got a chance when I had some good friends in town. The word on the street was this place had some amazing tacos; sure enough they did. Spectacular! The pork belly tacos were our favorite, with the carnitas coming in a close second. Be sure to ask for both hot sauces- pique and verde- delicious. The key lime pie was the perfect ending to our meal. Don't expect a fancy atmosphere- just go with a healthy appetite and you won'd be disappointed. (Super friendly staff as well.) $$
Old San Juan:
Waffle Era Breakfast/brunch tea room serving the "world's most expensive coffee" Kopi Luwak and delightful savory or sweet full-size or mini waffles. They also serve blooming tea. If you're in the mood for something truly decadent, try the Crème brûlée waffle. Out. Of. Control. $$
St. Germain Bistro & Cafe French bistro fare- salads, sandwiches, fresh fruit plates. Healthy, beautiful brunch options. Charming! $$
Condado:
La Concha One of my favorite places to enjoy a mocktail surrounded by 60's swank decor. Sip your beverage poolside or in the breezy lobby bar. A must-see location. $$$
Café Marquesa Home of the famous Red Velvet Pancakes and a rockin' churrasco, which is not to be missed. Coffee/tea, breakfast/brunch. Super friendly staff! $$
Condado Vanderbilt Stunning Art Deco inspired luxury hotel (with several restaurants/bars) featuring a spectacular ocean-front veranda. Treat yourself! $$$$
Ocean Park:
Ocean Park Cafe: A wonderful little find, off the beaten path mind you, but worth the slight diversion. The Eggs Benedict were superb, as was the coffee. They also offer a dizzying array of smoothies, acai bowls, freshly squeezed juices and wheatgrass shots. The service is slow (read Island Time) but extremely friendly. $$
